Maths

Toby has 40 apples he want's to give his friends Jakob, JT and Zara 10 apples each if Toby gave them 10 apples each. How many apples will Toby have left over?

  1. Hi Maeve,
That sounds like a lot of apples that Toby wants to share equally with his friends. Are they having an apple pie making competition?
I think that 40-10 for Jakob would be 30. 30-10 for Jt = 20 and 20-10 for Zara would leave Toby with 10 apples for himself. I wonder if you will come up with a measurement question for the next maths problem you share?

  2. Hi Maeve, How nice it is that Toby is sharing his apples with his 3 friends. I would solve your problem using multiplication 3x10=30 (he gives these apples away) and then I would substract this number from 40. 40-30=10. Next time you could come up with a question relating to the mls of juice in each apple. I wonder how many apples you would need to make a litre of apple juice?
